2 Chronicles 16:9
1 Verse: Verse 9. "For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. You have acted foolishly in this. Indeed, from now on you will surely have wars."
1 Prayer: Father, I am in desperate need of Your strong support. Please forgive my foolishness and accept my whole heart as completely Yours. I give it to You freely. I do not intend to hold any of it back from You. Yet You know better than I that the heart is deceitful. Please forgive my imperfect offering. I love You, even if not yet so greatly as You love me.

Matthew 6:1-4
1 Passage: Matthew 6:1-4
1 Verse: Verse 3. "But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing"
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for giving the riches of Your grace and love and mercy to us spiritually bankrupt people. You are our example of selfless giving. Please help us to follow. Teach us to be generous, cheerful givers to those who cannot repay. Forgive us for greedily grasping for profit-- in terms of advancing our own agendas or puffing up our pride or polishing our reputations -- in return for doing good and helping others. Show us how we may best give of ourselves to help those most in need.

1 Samuel 16:7
1 Passage: 1 Samuel 16:7
1 Verse: Verse 7. But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
1 Prayer: Father, please forgive me for focusing so much more effort on my outward appearance than on the condition of my heart. Forgive me for trying to look good on the outside, while barely keeping it together on the inside. Forgive me also for judging others by outward appearance and not seeing them as You see us all. Please teach me how to see others through Your eyes. Help me to look for the hearts of those around me. And please help me to guard my own heart, rather than just my reputation.

Psalm 139:13-18
1 Passage: Psalm 139:13-18
1 Verse: Verse 14. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for creating all things in Your goodness . . . even me -- though my soul knows it not so very well . . . But because I have been made by You, I know that nothing could ever unmake me. So there is no point in trying. Please help me to accept the truth that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. And please help me do the same for all other people You have created, who are wonderful works of Yours, who, too, bear Your image.

Psalm 139:7-12
1 Passage: Psalm 139:7-12
1 Verse: Verse 8. If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for always being near. Sometimes I feel as though I've made my bed and now I have to lie in it, and that a major part of that perceived punishment -- the just and natural consequences of my sins -- is Your distance and displeasure. But it isn't so. Even if I sleep around with Satan, You are there. And where You are, there is peace. Thank You for making peace with me through the love of Christ. Please help me to remember Your gracious nearness to me today so that my heart and mind can be steadfast in peace.

Psalm 139:1-6
1 Passage: Psalm 139:1-6
1 Verse: Verse 1. O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for graciously accepting me despite what You may see within me. I don't even know what all is in there, but based on some of what I've seen come out of my heart, there are some pretty deep, dark corners in which lurk some pretty nasty, ugly things. Please illuminate those shadows. Please clean out what I can't bear to look at. Please wash and refine and purify me. Only allow me to know enough of what is inside to change what can be changed. Please don't let me know too much of what You see, or I may become too discouraged, frightened, disheartened. Remind me over and over again that Your love beholds all and yet does not turn away in anger or disgust or frustration. You are patient and kind even with all of me. Thank You, Father.

John 16:29-33
1 Passage: John 16:29-33
1 Verse: Verse 33. "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world."
1 Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for granting us Your peace. It is a strange sort of peace -- it surpasses all comprehension? -- that exists in the midst of tribulation. It is a strange sort of world to live in -- completely overcome by divine love, yet still torn by trials and tribulations. Help me, Jesus, to know this peace in the midst of trials. Teach me how to live with courage when faced with the frightful things of this fearful world. Show me what Your overcoming can mean for me, for us.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
1 Passage: 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
1 Verse: Verse 24. Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.

Keep my thoughts and attitudes and actions today focused on You, set apart for Your use. 2 Corinthians 13:11
1 Passage: 2 Corinthians 13:11
1 Verse: Verse 11. Finally, brethren, rejoice, be made complete, be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.
1 Prayer: God of love and peace, thank You for being with me -- even though I am far from complete. Or am I only able to say that because I am only considering my own resources? Perhaps I would be comforted to know that You supply all that I require, all that I lack. Everything I need for joy and peace and maturity is in Your Spirit and Your Spirit is in me. So I will rejoice, I will be comforted, I will be completely at peace. Thank You, loving Father.

Psalm 98
1 Passage: Psalm 98
1 Verse: Verse 2. The LORD has made known His salvation; He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations.
1 Prayer: Despite all the mysteries that surround You like a shroud of darkness and cloud, You still make Your salvation known and reveal Your righteousness. 1 Passage: Psalm 97
1 Verse: Verse 2. Clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for establishing Your eternal rule and reign upon the foundation of perfect justice and righteousness. Even when Your holy throne is obscured from our understanding by the veil of mystery that surrounds You, we trust You to do all things well and make all things right. We even draw near to that throne of grace to find mercy and help in time of need. Please, Father, help us to gain from our trust in You the wisdom and courage to implement Your righteousness and justice in our lives by loving others at all costs, as You have commanded and demonstrated in Christ.

Psalm 96
1 Passage: Psalm 96
1 Verse: Verse 13. Before the LORD, for He is coming, For He is coming to judge the earth He will judge the world in righteousness And the peoples in His faithfulness.
1 Prayer: Father, You alone in all the world are the righteous Judge of all peoples. You alone see all and know all. Please forgive me for trying to judge others for myself, without all the facts and without all the righteousness. You will faithfully administer justice when You come. For now, we do the best we can, but far from much that is good and lasting and meaningful. But, Father, despite all that, please help us to lovingly and courageously and wisely uphold Your truth without judging and condemning those who deny it.

Psalm 95:7b-11
1 Passage: Psalm 95:7b-11
1 Verse: Verse 8. Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness
1 Prayer: Father, I would like to hear Your voice today. But if I would . . . I must not harden my heart. Please help me keep a tender heart before You today. Even if I go wandering in the wilderness, even when I find myself at a place of strife or in a time of temptation, I will keep a gentle, humble heart. Of course, that means my poor soft heart will hurt all the more. But if it also means I will get to hear Your voice, then it will all be worth it.

Psalm 95:3-5
1 Passage: Psalm 95:3-5
1 Verse: Verse 6. Come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for making me. I'd rather be than not be, though sometimes I'd rather not be me. I fear I've made quite a mess of what You have made for Yourself. But I'm grateful You still want me to come to You to worship and bow down. Perhaps I haven't made so little of myself. Perhaps You would make more of me than I would. Please help me, Father.
