Psalm 129

1 Chapter: Psalm 129

1 Verse:
Verse 4. The LORD is righteous; He has cut in two the cords of the wicked.

1 Prayer: Father, I keep feeling the plow on my back. I keep getting rundown, run over. I feel as though I am running out of time, energy, and ability. The trajectory of these lengthy furrows goes way back to my youth. How am I going to get free of them? Many times and in many ways they have buried me over and over and over again. Yet, have they prevailed? Somehow they are ever on the verge of prevailing, yet You have cut their cords in two. You break the stranglehold at the very last second. You are righteous. You relent. You redeem. You rescue. You restore. The wicked will attempt to tie me down for good, but You will cut every cord. Thank You for being faithful.

Psalm 128

1 Chapter: Psalm 128

1 Verse:
Verse 1. How blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in His ways.

1 Prayer: Father, I keep waiting and wishing and seeking Your blessing. And I wonder sometimes if it seems far off because I am not walking in Your ways as I should. Spirit, guide my steps. Teach me to fear You. Show me Your blessing. Lead me to walk in Your ways.

Psalm 127

1 Chapter: Psalm 127

1 Verse:
Verse 1. Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain.

1 Prayer: Father, I need You to work on my behalf. I need You to take away the vanity of my labor. Nothing is sound apart from You. All the edifices I erect crumble. All the time I spend is wasted, when You are not at work within it, within me. Jesus says You are always working, and I believe Him. But I'm like a watchman who stays up all night to see something that never materializes. Perhaps I'm looking for the wrong thing, or in the wrong place or at the wrong time. Maybe I don't know what to look for. Maybe Your help comes unlooked for and unseen. Whatever it is, Father, I trust You to work on my behalf. I trust You to be in the midst of my seemingly meaningless labors. You are the only One who redeems all time, all misplaced effort. Thank You for redeeming me and mine.

Psalm 126

1 Chapter: Psalm 126

1 Verse:
Verse 4a. Restore our captivity, O LORD.

1 Prayer: Father, how do You restore what is lost? How do You undo what has already been done? Time spent shut up in captivity is irrevocably gone. The past is more unchanging and unmoving than any iron bars or steel chains. And yet, here I am praying for restoration in the midst of the locust years. Somehow You can redeem them. Somehow You already have. I don't see how it is possible, though I believe that it is. But my faith is weak. Help my unbelief.

Psalm 125

1 Chapter: Psalm 125

1 Verse:
Verse 2. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people from this time forth and forever.

1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for surrounding me. You are near me on all sides and for all time. You are my defense and the source of all security and strength. Without You I would be laid waste by my enemies. With You I am protected, no matter what may come against me. Protect me today. Ring me around with Your powerful, peaceful presence. I dwell in You. I abide within the perfect circle of Your unfailing love and almighty power.

Psalm 124

1 Chapter: Psalm 124

1 Verse:
Verse 8. Our help is in the name of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.

1 Prayer: Help, Father. I'm calling out Your name, because it is only in You that I find the help that I need. You are the Creator of all things. You made me, and You are acquainted with all my neediness. What can I do but cast myself upon You for mercy and grace to help in time of need? Lord, it was no difficulty for You to make everything that is. It certainly seems like it would be no difficulty for You to meet my deepest needs. Please be a help to me now. I am trusting You to help me.
