Psalm 97

1 Chapter: Psalm 97

1 Verse:
Verse 12. Be glad in the LORD, you righteous ones, and give thanks to His holy name.

1 Prayer: Father, if I am glad, it is only because of You. If I am righteous, it is only because of You. How can I not give You thanks for such great gifts? You alone are so gracious as to freely give Your righteousness to one like me. You make me glad. I will be glad in You and thankful for Your many gifts today. I love You, Father.

Psalm 96

1 Chapter: Psalm 96

1 Verse:
Verse 10. Say among the nations, "The LORD reigns; indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved; He will judge the peoples with equity."

1 Prayer: Father, the rulers of nations are nothing compared to You. You are the One and Only King. You reign over nations and peoples -- and over the whole of all the world that You have made. Nothing is going to shake up Your kingdom -- no preemptive strike, no war of choice, no insurgency, no occupation, no mid-term election, no bombshell revelation, no cover-up, no scandal, no secret emails, no attack ads, no smear campaign, no media bias, no spin. You judge rightly. You judge everyone from the least to the greatest with the same balance scales. There is no favoritism of wealth or insider influence or popular vote or political power. I ca't wait, Lord, for Your judgment to come down, but I know it is not yet. As hard as it is to wait, I'm glad You are patient. Nothing is going to rush Your sovereign grace. Still, help me to "say among the nations" that You reign, and that Your perfect hope of salvation is on its way and here right now, once and future, already and not yet, present and still to come.

Psalm 95

1 Chapter: Psalm 95

1 Verse:
Verse 4. In whose hand are the depths of the earth, the peaks of the mountains are His also.

1 Prayer: Father, not only do you survey the physical topography of all You have made, but You map out the rugged and shifting terrain of my life. You are familiar with my peaks and valleys, my highest highs and lowest lows. Father, it all belongs to You.

Psalm 94

1 Chapter: Psalm 94

1 Verse:
Verse 19. When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul.

1 Prayer: Father, I will delight my soul in You. How many are Your consolations! Surely more than all the anxious thoughts I seem capable of endlessly multiplying. Help me, Father, to delight my soul in You when I begin to feel outnumbered by my worries, concerns and fears. You excel them all. I am grateful.

Psalm 93

1 Chapter: Psalm 93

1 Verse:
Verse 4. More than the sounds of many waters, than the mighty breakers of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty.

1 Prayer: Father, why should I doubt that You are more powerful than all that You have made? Nothing is beyond You. Yet I so easily forget. I can't seem to hear You over the crashing of the waves, the roaring of the wind. I keep trying to still them all. But You don't need to wait for that. You are stronger than all their bluster combined. I need to remember that when the winds and waves are high, You are always higher.

Psalm 92

1 Chapter: Psalm 92

1 Verse:
Verse 4. For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done, I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.

1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for what You have done. You have made me glad. I have spent this day in the presence of the works of Your hands, and it has me singing for joy. You do all things so well, it is a joy to behold Your works. They are wonderful and far beyond me to fully comprehend or appreciate. But what little I can see and recognize makes me thankful beyond telling. I needed to see You tonight, and I did. Thank You, Father.

Psalm 91

1 Chapter: Psalm 91

1 Verse:
Verse 15. "He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him."

1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for answering me when I call. I still feel as though I am in the midst of trouble, but I trust You to be near me, to hear me, and to answer. And I know Your answer will be my rescue, when it comes. So I will wait and hope and trust in You, Father. I love You.

Psalm 90

1 Chapter: Psalm 90

1 Verse:
Verse 13. Do return, O LORD; how long will it be? and be sorry for Your servants.

1 Prayer: Father, I know there is a returning that I must do. And I know that when I turn and draw near to You, then You draw near to me. I am drawing nearer. Draw me nearer, blessed Lord. I'm sorry I move so slow and my steps are so small. But You aren't that far off anyway, are You? Have mercy. Have pity. Be sorry for me and come close. I need You.

Psalm 89

1 Chapter: Psalm 89

1 Verse:
Verse 47. Remember what my span of life is; for what vanity You have created all the sons of men!

1 Prayer: Father, You knew before You made me that I was bound for futility. So why did You do it? My life span is too long to endure such fruitlessness and too short to overcome it -- and I don't even know how long it is! You know, but I don't. So You've got to do something, because everything I do is born of ignorance and turns to vanity right before my eyes. Empty, meaningless, and hollow is how I feel. I can't feel this way forever, can I?

Psalm 88

1 Chapter: Psalm 88

1 Verse:
Verse 6. You have put me in the lowest pit, in dark places, in the depths.

1 Prayer: I guess I shouldn't complain, Father, that You have put me where I am. Assuming You do all things for a reason, there must be good reason for me to be where I am, despite what I might want. But the truth is, Lord, as much as I rail against it, I do want what You have for me. So I'll take the depths and dark places. I'll do my best to praise You in the lowest pit. I'll welcome You here, too.

Psalm 87

1 Chapter: Psalm 87

1 Verse:
Verse 6. The LORD will count when He registers the peoples, "This one was born there." Selah.

1 Prayer: I don't belong here, Father. I feel so out of place tonight. I'm trying to believe that is because my citizenship is in heaven, but You say the kingdom of heaven is at hand -- even within me?!? So why am I feeling so far from home? You say You went away to prepare a place for me. But I feel stuck down here -- like there is no place for me. Please don't leave me like this. Lead me home to You, Father. I am Your runaway son. You are the Father who runs to me. Thank you. I love You.

Psalm 86

1 Chapter: Psalm 86

1 Verse:
Verse 4. Make glad the soul of Your servant, for to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

1 Prayer: My soul is already sunk down, Lord, and the day has barely begun. I have much to do today, and not enough time. Already I'm behind. But, Father, I lift up my soul to You. You know where my soul is weak, where my will is gone, where my joy is faltering. Make me glad about today, not fearful, resentful, hurt, filled with dread. Help me lift my soul to You throughout this day, whatever may come. Help me go about this day as Your servant, not a slave to myself, my desires, my flesh, my selfishness. You alone deserve all the love my soul can muster. Help me love You with all my soul today.

Psalm 85

1 Chapter: Psalm 85

1 Verse:
Verse 8. I will hear what God the LORD will say; for He will speak peace to His people, to His godly ones; but let them not turn back to folly.

1 Prayer:
If I will listen to what You say, what then will I hear? You speak peace through the blood of Christ, who is our peace, who has broken down every dividing wall of hostility. Why am I still war-torn? Let me not turn back to folly, Father. Let me turn again to You.

Psalm 84

1 Chapter: Psalm 84

1 Verse:
Verse 2. My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.

1 Prayer: I'm thankful, Father, that You have made a temple of my heart. I don't have to go anywhere to be nearere to You than You are to me at any and every moment. But even so, my heart and soul and flesh can stray, and turn away from You. Lord, as I gather with Your people today, I want my heart and soul and flesh to sing for joy to You. You are the Living God, who lives in me. You dwell in my heart. You give eternal life to my soul. You put to death the misdeeds of my flesh. Help me to live by Your grace and strength and hope and joy today.

Psalm 83

1 Chapter: Psalm 83

1 Verse:
Verse 1. O God, do not remain quiet; Do not be silent and, O God, do not be still.

1 Prayer: Father, we want to hear You. We want to see You move. We know that You are the Living God, that You are near, that You are always working. We know that we must walk by faith and not sight. We know that it is an adulterous generation that seeks a sign. Yet, it would be nice if we might every once in a while, every so often, see and hear and feel You in a decisive way. I know You have Your reasons. And I know they're much better than mine. But I also know that You remember me in my weakness. I know You condescend to my infirmity. I know You dwell with and within me. Help me be faithful and patient and trusting regardless of what I may happen to see or hear or feel today. I love You all the same.

Psalm 82

1 Chapter: Psalm 82

1 Verse:
Verse 8. Arise, O God, judge the earth! For it is You who possesses all the nations.

1 Prayer: Father, You are the only righteous judge. Everything in this world is Yours to do with as You see fit. You own every person, every ruler, every nation -- God bless Venezuela, Iran, America, North Korea, Iraq, Israel, China, Cuba, Thailand, Jordan, Sudan, Syria, Saudi Arabia. . . No nation is sovereign. No nation is more "Yours" than any other. For in all places everywhere Your love is undiminished by nationality, political creed, religion, race, age, gender, military power, industrial might, economic strength. We judge by such superficial standards, Lord, and create wars where there need be none. We need Your good judgment -- perfectly expressed in the person of Jesus Christ -- to arise over all the earth. Help me today to be the best representative of His kingdom -- my home country -- I can possibly be.

Psalm 81

1 Chapter: Psalm 81

1 Verse:
Verse 13. "Oh that My people would listen to Me, that Israel would walk in My ways!"

1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for making me one of Your people. I know I'm not always a good listener, and I sometimes walk my own way. But I'm so very thankful that You don't forsake me because of it. I'm thankful that even despite my stopped-up ears and my wayward feet, You still call me one of Your own. Forgive me for straying. Forgive me for paying attention to lying voices. Help me to hear You, and listen. Help me know Your ways, and walk in them.

Psalm 80

1 Chapter: Psalm 80

1 Verse:
Verse 19. O LORD God of hosts, restore us; cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved.

1 Prayer: Father, Your salvation is now and forever. But we ever need to be restored, reestablished, brought back, revived and renewed. Help us to know that even though we are surrounded by seemingly innumerable enemies, You alone are the God of hosts. Your power and majesty and grace are unmatched. You have only to turn Your face toward us to save us utterly and completely and for all time. Please look to us today and shine Your benevolent gaze upon our doings, so that your salvation will continue to work itself out in us for the glory to Your name.

Psalm 79

1 Chapter: Psalm 79

1 Verse:
Verse 9. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; and deliver us and forgive our sins for Your name's sake.

1 Prayer: Father, I have taken Your name. I have claimed Your salvation. Now, please don't let Your name be dishonored because of me. Help me to live as one saved from sin and death and hell. Deliver me from evil and forgive my sins, so that those who see me and know I am Yours will give You praise for Your undeserved and unfailing and unfathomable goodness to those who belong to You. Psalm 78

1 Chapter: Psalm 78

1 Verse:
Verse 38. But He, being compassionate, forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them; and often He restrained His anger and did not arouse all His wrath.

1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for being compassionate. Thank You for forgiving my rebellion and restraining Your anger. I would be destroyed by Your wrath if You did not relent. Help me to be compassionate and merciful, as You are compassionate and merciful. You do not destroy the wicked, but instead You show mercy. I want to be like that, too, Father. Please help me today to demonstrate my appreciation for Your compassion by being compassionate to others.
