Matthew 1:18-25

1 Passage: Matthew 1:18-25

1 Verse:
Verse 19. And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly.

1 Prayer:
Thank You, Father, for the example of Joseph -- a righteous man who did not flaunt his righteousness before others for the sake of honoring himself, but was intent on having at least some of his goodness go unrecognized out of compassion for those whose unrighteousness might by contrast cause them shame, disgrace and dishonor. Forgive me, Father, for not being more like this. Forgive me for wanting sometimes to use righteousness as a weapon of subjugation, to impel others to recognize or honor me and my goodness at the expense of their disgrace. Please give me wisdom to know when to "let [my] light shine before men" and when to "beware of practicing [my] righteousness before men."
