1 Chapter: Psalm 111
1 Verse: Verse 7. The works of His hands are truth and justice; all His precepts are sure.
1 Prayer: Father, I need a hand. I know even as I read it that I believe this is true. But all around me I think I only see falsehood and injustice. What good is it to me to know that Your precepts are sure, if I am so unsure about what exactly they are? I believe Your works are true and just, but that doesn't explain why they are what they are. If what You do is just, then I must be getting what I deserve. But I can't even tell if what I'm getting is a blessing or a curse, a reward or a punishment, or none of the above. It all looks so uncertain and suspect. How will I know the works of Your hands when I see them? Or is it all the work of Your hands? Are You really always at work, everywhere and in and through all things? How can You possibly be at work in this thing? Where is the truth and the justice in my circumstance? I'm sure they are there, but I'm unsure what they are. So I need You to help me. Please help.

1 Prayer: Father, when is the day of Your power? I keep waiting for You; are You waiting for me? I am Your people. I volunteer freely to serve You. Am I to You as the dew? Do I bring a fresh sheen of water, a dripping of Your Spirit onto the cold ground, over the buried seed? Or am I to You like the drought, a constant disappointment, a desperate yearning for relief that never quite comes? Father, Your people -- including this one especially -- are in dire need of You. 1 Prayer: Once isn't enough. You must continually deliver. Every path leads to distress, yet You deliver out of them all. I don't know why I am ashamed sometimes to cry out to You, Lord, in the midst of my troubles. Am I afraid You will not hear me because I have brought disaster upon myself? But You are a God who delivers. You are a God who hears cries. You are a God of relentless lovingkindness. No matter how many ways Your people find to get lost, stuck, shackled, afflicted, or sunk, You are ready to hear their cries and heal them. Father, I'm crying, too. Thank You for hearing me. 1 Prayer: Father, my heart seeks for You. Yet, You know how far from gladness my heart can be in the midst of the search. I think I will be glad once I have found You -- not while I'm still seeking. I know Your name is holy, yet I find myself reserving my triumphant rejoicing -- my glorying in Your holy name -- for some as yet unseen future. It is as if I do not want to celebrate prematurely. I guess that is a lack of faith -- since faith is the assurance of things unseen. Forgive me, Father, for my little faith. Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.

1 Verse: Verse 13. He waters the mountains from His upper chambers; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for the rains. The first of the season fell last night, and they remind me that You are generous and good and gracious to all You have made, despite what we deserve. You don't allow drought to endure forever, but in Your timing, by Your wisdom, You cause the seasons to come and go. It's been such a dry season -- or so it seems -- that I am parched and waiting for the new rain of Your Spirit to pour down on my thirsty soul. I'm tired of trying to dig this well. I'm so obsessed with finding water under the ground, that I forget to look up until it is falling on me from the sky. Help me, Lord, to be satisfied with the fruit of Your works, even the seasons of want and satiety that mark out the span of my days. You are good in season and out.

1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for Your compassionate care toward me. I appreciate so much that You tailor Your interactions with me to accomodate my weakness and frailty. You know better than I do the kinds of limitations I face. Yet You also know better than I do what amazing, miraculous, wonderful things You can do with nothing more than a pile of dust and a breath of Your spirit. Forgive me for thinking I know better. Just as You are mindful of my limitations, please help me to be mindful of Your transcendence of those same limitations. Help me to look not at the things that are passing away -- this body, this life -- but turn my eyes and thoughts and mind and heart toward the things that do not pass away -- Your Spirit, my spirit, our love relationship as Father and child.

Psalm 101
1 Chapter: Psalm 101
1 Verse: Verse 3. I will set no worthless thing before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not fasten its grip on me.
1 Prayer: This morning, Father, I feel like I'm 0-for-3. My eyes are full of worthless things; I can barely see past them. I'm the one who falls away. Whatever "it" is, it sure feels as though it has fastened its death grip on me. Again. Yet, I know that Your grip is greater. I know You won't let me go. So even as I feel the weight of worthless things pulling me under and down, I trust You to raise me up. I look to You for a helping hand to reach down and lift me out. I hold out my hope for Your deliverance, Father. Thank You for holding me close. I love You.

1 Verse: Verse 3. Know that the LORD Himself is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
1 Prayer: Father, You are God and You are good. Why do I keep trying to be sovereign god of my own life? You are the one who made me. I belong to You. Forgive me for taking upon myself the responsibilities reserved for You as my Creator and God. Help me to live humbly, as a sheep of Your pasture, as one of Your people. Today I am so tempted to think I must "make myself" do this or that, or "make myself" be this or that. And the truth is, it is You Who have made me. All I really have to do is be Yours. Thank You for making it a reality through the blood of Jesus, the Great and Good Shepherd of Your sheep. You've bought me back into Your pasture. Please help keep me from straying.

You don't bring me low to squash me under Your feet. You are holy. Nothing can stand before Your power and goodness. So when I fall down before You, help me lift up my praise and honor and worship and thanks. You deserve it all.

And yet You command it, You delight in it, You are praised by it. I don't have to understand it to thank You for it. I love You, Lord. Help me make music today that is pleasing to You, edifying to Your people and speaks the truth of my spirit -- of Your spirit within me.

1 Prayer: Father, the rulers of nations are nothing compared to You. You are the One and Only King. You reign over nations and peoples -- and over the whole of all the world that You have made. Nothing is going to shake up Your kingdom -- no preemptive strike, no war of choice, no insurgency, no occupation, no mid-term election, no bombshell revelation, no cover-up, no scandal, no secret emails, no attack ads, no smear campaign, no media bias, no spin. You judge rightly. You judge everyone from the least to the greatest with the same balance scales. There is no favoritism of wealth or insider influence or popular vote or political power. I ca't wait, Lord, for Your judgment to come down, but I know it is not yet. As hard as it is to wait, I'm glad You are patient. Nothing is going to rush Your sovereign grace. Still, help me to "say among the nations" that You reign, and that Your perfect hope of salvation is on its way and here right now, once and future, already and not yet, present and still to come.

1 Verse: Verse 19. When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul.
1 Prayer: Father, I will delight my soul in You. How many are Your consolations! Surely more than all the anxious thoughts I seem capable of endlessly multiplying. Help me, Father, to delight my soul in You when I begin to feel outnumbered by my worries, concerns and fears. You excel them all. I am grateful.

1 Verse: Verse 4. More than the sounds of many waters, than the mighty breakers of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty.
1 Prayer: Father, why should I doubt that You are more powerful than all that You have made? Nothing is beyond You. Yet I so easily forget. I can't seem to hear You over the crashing of the waves, the roaring of the wind. I keep trying to still them all. But You don't need to wait for that. You are stronger than all their bluster combined. I need to remember that when the winds and waves are high, You are always higher.

1 Chapter: Psalm 92
1 Verse: Verse 4. For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done, I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for what You have done. You have made me glad. I have spent this day in the presence of the works of Your hands, and it has me singing for joy. You do all things so well, it is a joy to behold Your works. They are wonderful and far beyond me to fully comprehend or appreciate. But what little I can see and recognize makes me thankful beyond telling. I needed to see You tonight, and I did. Thank You, Father.
