Psalm 137
1 Chapter: Psalm 137
1 Verse: Verse 4. How can we sing the LORD's song in a foreign land?
1 Prayer: Father, teach me how to sing Your song in the midst of this land where I live. It is not my home -- my home is in heaven. This is a foreign land, a far country, in which I am but a pilgrim and a sojourner. I am in this world, but not of it. Is that why it is so hard for me to get comfortable here? Does that explain my unhappiness? I want to know peace -- Your peace -- and I know it has to come from You. In this world I have trouble, but You have overcome the world. Overcome my troubled spirit, Father, and grant me peace. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. Here I will sing Your song.

Psalm 135
1 Chapter: Psalm 135
1 Verse: Verse 6. Whatever the LORD pleases, He does, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.
1 Prayer: Father, we are praying that You would do as we please. We're praying that whatever pleases You would also please us. You chose to be our Father. You chose to be a Father who hears. And so we are praying, knowing that You are listening. And we're wondering what You are doing, what You are going to do. Please, Father, may You in Your grace and wisdom grant us what we ask in such a way that we are both pleased -- You and us. If this thing we're asking for pleases You, then we know it will be done. Father, we're asking in faith, trusting in Your good pleasure, that You would be pleased to hear and answer and grant our request. We love You!

Psalm 133
1 Chapter: Psalm 133
1 Verse: Verse 1. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!
1 Prayer: Father, may we please behold the goodness and pleasure of life in community with one another. Help us to live out the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Let those who are lonely and those who are in conflict all come together as one to find a common life of loving and serving You. May we learn that loving and serving one another is loving and serving You. Thank You, Father, for being bigger than all our differences. Thank You for making us diverse, so that our unity can be all the more beautiful, rich, and strong. Thank You that the blessings of community come from You.

Psalm 132
1 Chapter: Psalm 132
1 Verse: Verse 14. "This is My resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for resting Your Spirit upon me forever. You dwell in me as I abide in You. I don't understand how You do it. I can't comprehend why You do it, except that You love me. You have desired to be with me, within me, close to me forever. Even before I desired to be near You, You had given Your Son to die to make it possible. I am so thankful that Your nearness is based on Your desire and not mine. You know I desire it, but my desire is weak, fickle, untrustworthy. I trust in Your love for me.

Psalm 131
1 Chapter: Psalm 131
1 Verse: Verse 3O. Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and forever.
1 Prayer: Father, I wish I could pray the previous two verses of this psalm. Yet, I know they do not describe me very well. My soul is neither composed nor quiet. My involvements seem far too great for my powers of comprehension. Yet, if there is one thing I can do, it is to hope in You. I am trusting You to teach me to compose and quiet my soul. I hope in the day my soul is like a weaned child. Help me get disentangled from things too difficult for me. Thank You, Lord.

Psalm 130
1 Chapter: Psalm 130
1 Verse: Verse 7. O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is lovingkindness, and with Him is abundant redemption.
1 Prayer: Father, I keep forgetting that Your redemption is abundant. Your lovingkindness is fully sufficient for my sinful weakness. You do not forget my hope in You, no matter how small and fragile and unworthy it may be. I am so thankful, Father, that You hear prayer and show goodness to me when I least deserve it. Teach me to be ever watchful for Your working on my behalf. Teach me to hope in You even when I don't see Your works. Teach me to be thankful for things I haven't seen. And when I do see Your hand move to help me, help me to be abundantly thankful. Thank You, Father. I love You.

Psalm 129
1 Chapter: Psalm 129
1 Verse: Verse 4. The LORD is righteous; He has cut in two the cords of the wicked.
1 Prayer: Father, I keep feeling the plow on my back. I keep getting rundown, run over. I feel as though I am running out of time, energy, and ability. The trajectory of these lengthy furrows goes way back to my youth. How am I going to get free of them? Many times and in many ways they have buried me over and over and over again. Yet, have they prevailed? Somehow they are ever on the verge of prevailing, yet You have cut their cords in two. You break the stranglehold at the very last second. You are righteous. You relent. You redeem. You rescue. You restore. The wicked will attempt to tie me down for good, but You will cut every cord. Thank You for being faithful.

Psalm 127
1 Chapter: Psalm 127
1 Verse: Verse 1. Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain.
1 Prayer: Father, I need You to work on my behalf. I need You to take away the vanity of my labor. Nothing is sound apart from You. All the edifices I erect crumble. All the time I spend is wasted, when You are not at work within it, within me. Jesus says You are always working, and I believe Him. But I'm like a watchman who stays up all night to see something that never materializes. Perhaps I'm looking for the wrong thing, or in the wrong place or at the wrong time. Maybe I don't know what to look for. Maybe Your help comes unlooked for and unseen. Whatever it is, Father, I trust You to work on my behalf. I trust You to be in the midst of my seemingly meaningless labors. You are the only One who redeems all time, all misplaced effort. Thank You for redeeming me and mine.

Psalm 126
1 Chapter: Psalm 126
1 Verse: Verse 4a. Restore our captivity, O LORD.
1 Prayer: Father, how do You restore what is lost? How do You undo what has already been done? Time spent shut up in captivity is irrevocably gone. The past is more unchanging and unmoving than any iron bars or steel chains. And yet, here I am praying for restoration in the midst of the locust years. Somehow You can redeem them. Somehow You already have. I don't see how it is possible, though I believe that it is. But my faith is weak. Help my unbelief.

1 Verse: Verse 8. Our help is in the name of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.
1 Prayer: Help, Father. I'm calling out Your name, because it is only in You that I find the help that I need. You are the Creator of all things. You made me, and You are acquainted with all my neediness. What can I do but cast myself upon You for mercy and grace to help in time of need? Lord, it was no difficulty for You to make everything that is. It certainly seems like it would be no difficulty for You to meet my deepest needs. Please be a help to me now. Psalm 123
1 Chapter: Psalm 123
1 Verse: Verse 2. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, until He is gracious to us.
1 Prayer: Father, You have been gracious. You have already given me more than I deserve, more than I can ask or imagine, more than I can ever feel worthy of receiving. And yet, despite all the grace You have given, I still look to You. I still need more grace. I don't mean to diminish, depreciate or devalue all You have already done for me in Christ. But I am still looking to You, still waiting until You are gracious to me. Is that alright with You? Do You mind if I ask for even more grace? I trust from what You've already been willing to give that perhaps You are not unwilling to give even a little more. If so, then I pray that You have merciful eyes when You look back at me. Because I am looking to You until You are gracious to me. Be gracious to me, Father, please. You know what I need. Thank You, and I love You.

Psalm 121
1 Chapter: Psalm 121
1 Verse: Verse 7. The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.
1 Prayer: Father, this sounds almost too good to be true. But I know Your promises are sure. So I want to thank You for keeping my soul. Sometimes it feels lost, cast aside, forgotten. But I know by Your Word that You keep it safe and secure in Your possession forever. I trust You to protect me. But You know how strong my self-protective impulses are. And You know how misguided and misdirected they can be. Please help me to trust You more for the comfort and safety that I need, and not to seek it in other things. Protect me from all evil. Keep my soul.

Psalm 120
1 Chapter: Psalm 120
1 Verse: Verse 7. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.
1 Prayer: Father, You are the giver of perfect peace that surpasses understanding. I am in need of it. Silence the voices of war that echo in my life -- voices of an enemy who seeks only to steal, kill and destroy. Yours is the voice I need to hear. I need to hear You speak Your words of comfort and peace to my decimated soul. Prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. Thank You, Father.

Psalm 119
1 Chapter: Psalm 119
1 Verse: Verse 169. Let my cry come before You, O LORD; give me understanding according to Your word.
1 Prayer: Father, there are so many things I want to understand -- Your word very much being one of them. And yet, I can understand none of them well, unless I know them in Your truth. I need Your truth, Father, to give me understanding.
