1 Chapter: Psalm 129
1 Verse: Verse 4. The LORD is righteous; He has cut in two the cords of the wicked.
1 Prayer: Father, I keep feeling the plow on my back. I keep getting rundown, run over. I feel as though I am running out of time, energy, and ability. The trajectory of these lengthy furrows goes way back to my youth. How am I going to get free of them? Many times and in many ways they have buried me over and over and over again. Yet, have they prevailed? Somehow they are ever on the verge of prevailing, yet You have cut their cords in two. You break the stranglehold at the very last second. You are righteous. You relent. You redeem. You rescue. You restore. The wicked will attempt to tie me down for good, but You will cut every cord. Thank You for being faithful.

1 Verse: Verse 1. How blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in His ways.
1 Prayer: Father, I keep waiting and wishing and seeking Your blessing. And I wonder sometimes if it seems far off because I am not walking in Your ways as I should. Spirit, guide my steps. Teach me to fear You. Show me Your blessing. Lead me to walk in Your ways.

Psalm 127
1 Chapter: Psalm 127
1 Verse: Verse 1. Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain.
1 Prayer: Father, I need You to work on my behalf. I need You to take away the vanity of my labor. Nothing is sound apart from You. All the edifices I erect crumble. All the time I spend is wasted, when You are not at work within it, within me. Jesus says You are always working, and I believe Him. But I'm like a watchman who stays up all night to see something that never materializes. Perhaps I'm looking for the wrong thing, or in the wrong place or at the wrong time. Maybe I don't know what to look for. Maybe Your help comes unlooked for and unseen. Whatever it is, Father, I trust You to work on my behalf. I trust You to be in the midst of my seemingly meaningless labors. You are the only One who redeems all time, all misplaced effort. Thank You for redeeming me and mine.

Psalm 126
1 Chapter: Psalm 126
1 Verse: Verse 4a. Restore our captivity, O LORD.
1 Prayer: Father, how do You restore what is lost? How do You undo what has already been done? Time spent shut up in captivity is irrevocably gone. The past is more unchanging and unmoving than any iron bars or steel chains. And yet, here I am praying for restoration in the midst of the locust years. Somehow You can redeem them. Somehow You already have. I don't see how it is possible, though I believe that it is. But my faith is weak. Help my unbelief.

1 Verse: Verse 2. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people from this time forth and forever.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for surrounding me. You are near me on all sides and for all time. You are my defense and the source of all security and strength. Without You I would be laid waste by my enemies. With You I am protected, no matter what may come against me. Protect me today. Ring me around with Your powerful, peaceful presence. I dwell in You. Psalm 124
1 Chapter: Psalm 124
1 Verse: Verse 8. Our help is in the name of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.
1 Prayer: Help, Father. I'm calling out Your name, because it is only in You that I find the help that I need. You are the Creator of all things. You made me, and You are acquainted with all my neediness. What can I do but cast myself upon You for mercy and grace to help in time of need? Lord, it was no difficulty for You to make everything that is. It certainly seems like it would be no difficulty for You to meet my deepest needs. Please be a help to me now. Psalm 123
1 Chapter: Psalm 123
1 Verse: Verse 2. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, until He is gracious to us.
1 Prayer: Father, You have been gracious. You have already given me more than I deserve, more than I can ask or imagine, more than I can ever feel worthy of receiving. And yet, despite all the grace You have given, I still look to You. I still need more grace. I don't mean to diminish, depreciate or devalue all You have already done for me in Christ. But I am still looking to You, still waiting until You are gracious to me. Is that alright with You? Do You mind if I ask for even more grace? I trust from what You've already been willing to give that perhaps You are not unwilling to give even a little more. If so, then I pray that You have merciful eyes when You look back at me. Because I am looking to You until You are gracious to me. Be gracious to me, Father, please. You know what I need. Thank You, and I love You.

Psalm 121
1 Chapter: Psalm 121
1 Verse: Verse 7. The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.
1 Prayer: Father, this sounds almost too good to be true. But I know Your promises are sure. So I want to thank You for keeping my soul. Sometimes it feels lost, cast aside, forgotten. But I know by Your Word that You keep it safe and secure in Your possession forever. I trust You to protect me. But You know how strong my self-protective impulses are. And You know how misguided and misdirected they can be. Please help me to trust You more for the comfort and safety that I need, and not to seek it in other things. Protect me from all evil. 1 Chapter: Psalm 120
1 Verse: Verse 7. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.
1 Prayer: Father, You are the giver of perfect peace that surpasses understanding. I am in need of it. Silence the voices of war that echo in my life -- voices of an enemy who seeks only to steal, kill and destroy. Yours is the voice I need to hear. I need to hear You speak Your words of comfort and peace to my decimated soul. Prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. Thank You, Father.

1 Verse: Verse 2. For His lovingkindness is great toward us, and the truth of the LORD is everlasting. Praise the LORD!
1 Prayer: How simple can it be, Father? You are love so great that nothing -- not even my sometimes wicked self -- can get in Your way. Your love prevails over us. Psalm 116
1 Chapter: Psalm 116
1 Verse: Verse 9. I shall walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
1 Prayer: Here I am, Father, in the land of the living. And I find myself faced with the challenge and the promise of walking before You. I want it to be easier than it is. I am ashamed sometimes at how difficult I find it to be. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. But I long for the blessed hope of walking at ease, in perfect peace in Your perfect kingdom. I know I am not there yet, but I also know that, by Your grace, I am closer than it seems sometimes. You are closer than You appear. Behold! the kingdom of God is in our midst. Psalm 115
1 Chapter: Psalm 115
1 Verse: Verse 1. Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name give glory because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth.
1 Prayer: Father, I am so incredibly thankful that Your glory derives not from me and my faithfulness, but from Your own goodness and truth. If it were up to me, You might never receive the glory You deserve -- not for lack of trying, but simply out of my own weakness, frailty, failure and want. I have sometimes been over-zealous for Your glory, Lord, and it has done little to honor You. It is not through my strivings, but rather by Your grace that You are most sufficiently glorified. It is through Your unlimited kindness to undeserving people like me that most reveals the glory of Your name. And I am thankful, Father. Help me not to seek Your glory through my self-righteousness, but through Your lovingkindness and Your truth.

Psalm 114
1 Chapter: Psalm 114
1 Verse: Verse 8. Who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of water.
1 Prayer: Rock into river, flint into fountain, stone into stream, boulder into babbling brook -- Father, You have a way with making hard and solid things liquid. And Lord, You know I need it now. I am stuck, my heart frozen, my mind paralyzed, my body statuesque in my habitual stubbornness. I am looking to You to crack me up, to break me down, to pulverize my pride until only Your love and grace spill out. Demolish the dam that keeps the flood of Your living water pent up inside me. Lord, I want to flow in the motions of Your divine love today. "Lay Your crushing hand, Your mighty hand, on me gently." Please. I love You. Thank You for saving me.

Psalm 113
1 Chapter: Psalm 113
1 Verse: Verse 6. Who humbles Himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth?
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for Your great humility. Your glory is exalted ever higher the more You humble Yourself lower. Sometimes I feel like I am the lowest of the low, Father. It seems like You would never come all the way down here to witness my condition firsthand. Yet that is exactly what You do. I fear it at the same time I welcome it. I don't want You to see the squalor in which I live. And in some cases I've chosen this for myself, and I don't want You to see the rotten fruit of my foolish choices. But You have promised not to condescend in order to condemn. You have come down to give life, to seek and find what was lost, to repair what was broken, to reclaim what had been forfeited away, to redeem to Yourself what had been deemed not Your own, to renew what was fading out into oblivion and return it to abundant life again. That's me, Father. I am Yours.

I am Yours.

Psalm 112
1 Chapter: Psalm 112
1 Verse: Verse 1. Praise the LORD! How blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in His commandments.
1 Prayer: Father, this verse calls me to praise You, fear You, and delight in You. To praise You is to give expression to Your exalted status over all things. To fear You is act in the recognition of that status. To delight in You is to take great pleasure and joy in in praising and fearing You. Father, forgive me for so often giving expression to the voice of my own condition, without taking into account Yours. Forgive me for failing to fear You enough to act as I know I should. Forgive me for begrudging You the obedience and honor You deserve. Teach me to delight to do Your good, pleasing and perfect will.

Psalm 111
1 Chapter: Psalm 111
1 Verse: Verse 7. The works of His hands are truth and justice; all His precepts are sure.
1 Prayer: Father, I need a hand. I know even as I read it that I believe this is true. But all around me I think I only see falsehood and injustice. What good is it to me to know that Your precepts are sure, if I am so unsure about what exactly they are? I believe Your works are true and just, but that doesn't explain why they are what they are. If what You do is just, then I must be getting what I deserve. But I can't even tell if what I'm getting is a blessing or a curse, a reward or a punishment, or none of the above. It all looks so uncertain and suspect. How will I know the works of Your hands when I see them? Or is it all the work of Your hands? Are You really always at work, everywhere and in and through all things? How can You possibly be at work in this thing? Where is the truth and the justice in my circumstance? I'm sure they are there, but I'm unsure what they are. So I need You to help me. Please help.

Psalm 110
1 Chapter: Psalm 110
1 Verse: Verse 3. Your people will volunteer freely in the day of Your power; in holy array, from the womb of the dawn, Your youth are to You as the dew.
1 Prayer: Father, when is the day of Your power? I keep waiting for You; are You waiting for me? I am Your people. I volunteer freely to serve You. Am I to You as the dew? Do I bring a fresh sheen of water, a dripping of Your Spirit onto the cold ground, over the buried seed? Or am I to You like the drought, a constant disappointment, a desperate yearning for relief that never quite comes? Father, Your people -- including this one especially -- are in dire need of You. Please come and give me freedom from what constrains my will so that I may willingly give You all of myself freely. I love You, Father.

1 Chapter: Psalm 109
1 Verse: Verse 31. For He stands at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those who judge his soul.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for saving me from judgment. The verdict is already in -- there is no way my soul can escape the penalty of my guilty plea. Except through the blood of Christ. Unless You stand beside me -- at my right hand -- I am condemned. Thank You for standing by.

1 Chapter: Psalm 108
1 Verse: Verse 12. Oh give us help against the adversary, for deliverance by man is in vain.
1 Prayer: Father, You know my adversary. You know how much help I need in any given day to keep from falling into my enemy's clutches. I need Your help, because I can't deliver myself. I need You to save me. So, please save me today, from whatever threatens to control, cajole or cow me into straying from You. I will stay close by, praying and waiting for Your deliverance to come. Psalm 107
1 Chapter: Psalm 107
1 Verse: Verse 6. Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He delivered them out of their distresses.
1 Prayer: Once isn't enough. You must continually deliver. Every path leads to distress, yet You deliver out of them all. I don't know why I am ashamed sometimes to cry out to You, Lord, in the midst of my troubles. Am I afraid You will not hear me because I have brought disaster upon myself? But You are a God who delivers. You are a God who hears cries. You are a God of relentless lovingkindness. No matter how many ways Your people find to get lost, stuck, shackled, afflicted, or sunk, You are ready to hear their cries and heal them. Father, I'm crying, too. Thank You for hearing me. I know my deliverance is coming.

Psalm 106
1 Chapter: Psalm 106
1 Verse: Verse 8. Nevertheless He saved them for the sake of His name, that He might make His power known.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for Your great "nevertheless". If salvation depended on me and my faithfulness, or me and my power, it would never happen, But You have saved me for Your name's sake. It is precisely Your power that saves. Why do I lament so my own weakness? It neither saves nor condemns me. You save me, and I am so grateful for Your everlasting lovingkindness. Your mercies are new every morning.

Psalm 105
1 Chapter: Psalm 105
1 Verse: Verse 3. Glory in His holy name; let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
1 Prayer: Father, my heart seeks for You. Yet, You know how far from gladness my heart can be in the midst of the search. I think I will be glad once I have found You -- not while I'm still seeking. I know Your name is holy, yet I find myself reserving my triumphant rejoicing -- my glorying in Your holy name -- for some as yet unseen future. It is as if I do not want to celebrate prematurely. I guess that is a lack of faith -- since faith is the assurance of things unseen. Forgive me, Father, for my little faith. Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.

Psalm 104
1 Chapter: Psalm 104
1 Verse: Verse 13. He waters the mountains from His upper chambers; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for the rains. The first of the season fell last night, and they remind me that You are generous and good and gracious to all You have made, despite what we deserve. You don't allow drought to endure forever, but in Your timing, by Your wisdom, You cause the seasons to come and go. It's been such a dry season -- or so it seems -- that I am parched and waiting for the new rain of Your Spirit to pour down on my thirsty soul. I'm tired of trying to dig this well. I'm so obsessed with finding water under the ground, that I forget to look up until it is falling on me from the sky. Help me, Lord, to be satisfied with the fruit of Your works, even the seasons of want and satiety that mark out the span of my days. You are good in season and out.

Psalm 103
1 Chapter: Psalm 103
1 Verse: Verse 14. For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for Your compassionate care toward me. I appreciate so much that You tailor Your interactions with me to accomodate my weakness and frailty. You know better than I do the kinds of limitations I face. Yet You also know better than I do what amazing, miraculous, wonderful things You can do with nothing more than a pile of dust and a breath of Your spirit. Forgive me for thinking I know better. Just as You are mindful of my limitations, please help me to be mindful of Your transcendence of those same limitations. Help me to look not at the things that are passing away -- this body, this life -- but turn my eyes and thoughts and mind and heart toward the things that do not pass away -- Your Spirit, my spirit, our love relationship as Father and child.

Psalm 101
1 Chapter: Psalm 101
1 Verse: Verse 3. I will set no worthless thing before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not fasten its grip on me.
1 Prayer: This morning, Father, I feel like I'm 0-for-3. My eyes are full of worthless things; I can barely see past them. I'm the one who falls away. Whatever "it" is, it sure feels as though it has fastened its death grip on me. Again. Yet, I know that Your grip is greater. I know You won't let me go. So even as I feel the weight of worthless things pulling me under and down, I trust You to raise me up. I look to You for a helping hand to reach down and lift me out. I hold out my hope for Your deliverance, Father. Thank You for holding me close. I love You.

Psalm 100
1 Chapter: Psalm 100
1 Verse: Verse 3. Know that the LORD Himself is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
1 Prayer: Father, You are God and You are good. Why do I keep trying to be sovereign god of my own life? You are the one who made me. I belong to You. Forgive me for taking upon myself the responsibilities reserved for You as my Creator and God. Help me to live humbly, as a sheep of Your pasture, as one of Your people. Today I am so tempted to think I must "make myself" do this or that, or "make myself" be this or that. And the truth is, it is You Who have made me. All I really have to do is be Yours. Thank You for making it a reality through the blood of Jesus, the Great and Good Shepherd of Your sheep. You've bought me back into Your pasture. Please help keep me from straying.

1 Verse: Verse 5. Exalt the LORD our God and worship at His footstool; holy is He.
1 Prayer: Father, the more I elevate You in praise, the more I sink down at Your feet. Help me to remember when I am down there that I am humbled so that I may worship properly. You don't bring me low to squash me under Your feet. You are holy. Nothing can stand before Your power and goodness. Psalm 98
1 Chapter: Psalm 98
1 Verse: Verse 5. Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for another Sunday morning. Another day to sing praises to You in the presence of Your people. Thank You for allowing us to praise You with guitars and drums and piano and voices. Thank You for the sound of melodies. It is only music. It is only play. And yet You command it, You delight in it, You are praised by it. I don't have to understand it to thank You for it. I love You, Lord.
Help me make music today that is pleasing to You, edifying to Your people and speaks the truth of my spirit -- of Your spirit within me.

Psalm 97
1 Chapter: Psalm 97
1 Verse: Verse 12. Be glad in the LORD, you righteous ones, and give thanks to His holy name.
1 Prayer: Father, if I am glad, it is only because of You. If I am righteous, it is only because of You. How can I not give You thanks for such great gifts? You alone are so gracious as to freely give Your righteousness to one like me. You make me glad. I will be glad in You and thankful for Your many gifts today. I love You, Father.

Psalm 96
1 Chapter: Psalm 96
1 Verse: Verse 10. Say among the nations, "The LORD reigns; indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved; He will judge the peoples with equity."
1 Prayer: Father, the rulers of nations are nothing compared to You. You are the One and Only King. You reign over nations and peoples -- and over the whole of all the world that You have made. Nothing is going to shake up Your kingdom -- no preemptive strike, no war of choice, no insurgency, no occupation, no mid-term election, no bombshell revelation, no cover-up, no scandal, no secret emails, no attack ads, no smear campaign, no media bias, no spin. You judge rightly. You judge everyone from the least to the greatest with the same balance scales. There is no favoritism of wealth or insider influence or popular vote or political power. I ca't wait, Lord, for Your judgment to come down, but I know it is not yet. As hard as it is to wait, I'm glad You are patient. Nothing is going to rush Your sovereign grace. Still, help me to "say among the nations" that You reign, and that Your perfect hope of salvation is on its way and here right now, once and future, already and not yet, present and still to come.

1 Verse: Verse 4. In whose hand are the depths of the earth, the peaks of the mountains are His also.
1 Prayer: Father, not only do you survey the physical topography of all You have made, but You map out the rugged and shifting terrain of my life. You are familiar with my peaks and valleys, my highest highs and lowest lows. Father, it all belongs to You.

Psalm 94
1 Chapter: Psalm 94
1 Verse: Verse 19. When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul.
1 Prayer: Father, I will delight my soul in You. How many are Your consolations! Surely more than all the anxious thoughts I seem capable of endlessly multiplying. Help me, Father, to delight my soul in You when I begin to feel outnumbered by my worries, concerns and fears. You excel them all. I am grateful.

Psalm 93
1 Chapter: Psalm 93
1 Verse: Verse 4. More than the sounds of many waters, than the mighty breakers of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty.
1 Prayer: Father, why should I doubt that You are more powerful than all that You have made? Nothing is beyond You. Yet I so easily forget. I can't seem to hear You over the crashing of the waves, the roaring of the wind. I keep trying to still them all. But You don't need to wait for that. You are stronger than all their bluster combined. I need to remember that when the winds and waves are high, You are always higher.

Psalm 92
1 Chapter: Psalm 92
1 Verse: Verse 4. For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done, I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for what You have done. You have made me glad. I have spent this day in the presence of the works of Your hands, and it has me singing for joy. You do all things so well, it is a joy to behold Your works. They are wonderful and far beyond me to fully comprehend or appreciate. But what little I can see and recognize makes me thankful beyond telling. I needed to see You tonight, and I did. Thank You, Father.

Psalm 91
1 Chapter: Psalm 91
1 Verse: Verse 15. "He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him."
1 Prayer: Thank You, Father, for answering me when I call. I still feel as though I am in the midst of trouble, but I trust You to be near me, to hear me, and to answer. And I know Your answer will be my rescue, when it comes. So I will wait and hope and trust in You, Father. I love You.

Psalm 90
1 Chapter: Psalm 90
1 Verse: Verse 13. Do return, O LORD; how long will it be? and be sorry for Your servants.
1 Prayer: Father, I know there is a returning that I must do. And I know that when I turn and draw near to You, then You draw near to me. I am drawing nearer. Draw me nearer, blessed Lord. I'm sorry I move so slow and my steps are so small. But You aren't that far off anyway, are You? Have mercy. Have pity. Be sorry for me and come close. I need You.

Psalm 89
1 Chapter: Psalm 89
1 Verse: Verse 47. Remember what my span of life is; for what vanity You have created all the sons of men!
1 Prayer: Father, You knew before You made me that I was bound for futility. So why did You do it? My life span is too long to endure such fruitlessness and too short to overcome it -- and I don't even know how long it is! You know, but I don't. So You've got to do something, because everything I do is born of ignorance and turns to vanity right before my eyes. Empty, meaningless, and hollow is how I feel. I can't feel this way forever, can I?

Psalm 88
1 Chapter: Psalm 88
1 Verse: Verse 6. You have put me in the lowest pit, in dark places, in the depths.
1 Prayer: I guess I shouldn't complain, Father, that You have put me where I am. Assuming You do all things for a reason, there must be good reason for me to be where I am, despite what I might want. But the truth is, Lord, as much as I rail against it, I do want what You have for me. So I'll take the depths and dark places. I'll do my best to praise You in the lowest pit. I'll welcome You here, too.

Psalm 87
1 Chapter: Psalm 87
1 Verse: Verse 6. The LORD will count when He registers the peoples, "This one was born there." Selah.
1 Prayer: I don't belong here, Father. I feel so out of place tonight. I'm trying to believe that is because my citizenship is in heaven, but You say the kingdom of heaven is at hand -- even within me?!? So why am I feeling so far from home? You say You went away to prepare a place for me. But I feel stuck down here -- like there is no place for me. Please don't leave me like this. Lead me home to You, Father. I am Your runaway son. You are the Father who runs to me. Thank you. I love You.

Psalm 86
1 Chapter: Psalm 86
1 Verse: Verse 4. Make glad the soul of Your servant, for to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
1 Prayer: My soul is already sunk down, Lord, and the day has barely begun. I have much to do today, and not enough time. Already I'm behind. But, Father, I lift up my soul to You. You know where my soul is weak, where my will is gone, where my joy is faltering. Make me glad about today, not fearful, resentful, hurt, filled with dread. Help me lift my soul to You throughout this day, whatever may come. Help me go about this day as Your servant, not a slave to myself, my desires, my flesh, my selfishness. You alone deserve all the love my soul can muster. Help me love You with all my soul today.

Psalm 85
1 Chapter: Psalm 85
1 Verse: Verse 8. I will hear what God the LORD will say; for He will speak peace to His people, to His godly ones; but let them not turn back to folly.
1 Prayer: If I will listen to what You say, what then will I hear? You speak peace through the blood of Christ, who is our peace, who has broken down every dividing wall of hostility. Why am I still war-torn? Let me not turn back to folly, Father. Let me turn again to You.

Psalm 84
1 Chapter: Psalm 84
1 Verse: Verse 2. My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.
1 Prayer: I'm thankful, Father, that You have made a temple of my heart. I don't have to go anywhere to be nearere to You than You are to me at any and every moment. But even so, my heart and soul and flesh can stray, and turn away from You. Lord, as I gather with Your people today, I want my heart and soul and flesh to sing for joy to You. You are the Living God, who lives in me. You dwell in my heart. You give eternal life to my soul. You put to death the misdeeds of my flesh.
