Hebrews 12:4-11

1 Passage: Hebrews 12:4-11

1 Verse:
Verse 7. It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?

1 Prayer:
Thank You, Father, for dealing with me as Your son whom You love. Forgive me for not recognizing Your discipline for what it is. I cry and moan and blubber and wail, without ever realizing that, because You are my Father and I am Your son, all these blows are really blessings. Only Your love could manage to take all our sufferings and sorrows and scourgings and somehow transfigure them into good news. But, for all that, I still don't welcome Your discipline. I'm still begging You to relent. Teach me what You want me to endure. Show me the faults that Your discipline is meant to correct. And help me to continue to resist sin, in the full assurance that You are with me to help me become the son You have created me to be.

1 Verse: Verse 11. All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.

1 Prayer: Dear Lord, I know that many times I forget that through discipline comes peacefulness and because of that I often get upset. I pray that you will continually remind me of the already peacful events that have occured because of your discipline. Let me realize that you are not trying to bring sorrow to my life, but that by bringing sorrow you know I will gain peacufulness. Thank you for caring so much about my well being enough to jeopardize our relationship at times when I may get upset and to know that in time I will truly realize your plans and be forever greatful.

1 verse: v. 10 - For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, )so that we may share His holiness.

1 prayer: God, thank you for being a father. Every time I read this passage, every time you have whispered it to me, I am thankful. I am reassured of your faithfulness, of your goodness, and of your love for me. Please show me how I should live, and give me direction. Make me into everything you desire me to be. Show me how to let what happens, whatever happens, to always work for your glory.
